Free created his human conditioning work, based on a lady he knew, who he described as a woman who "rose up against adversity with a smile". He, like Laith Majali, photographed the human condition in black and white, although he took these photos 40+ years ago. Most of his photos contain multiple emotions from the human conditions, mainly depicting some element of work.

Most of John's photography show the human condition - work - which is actually an artificial condition made by humans themselves, to create the societies in which we live in today, with currency and jobs. This photo, like the rest of his project, is black and white, which makes the photo look old, which is supported by the really old semi-truck behind the subject. Depending on the age and occupation of the viewer, this project may bring back nostalgia. The size of the machinery makes the humans in the photos seem puny and weak in comparison to the towering trucks that look dominant and overpowering. In each photo the subject is placed slightly off centre, with the surroundings filling up the other areas of the photograph, making the image visually interesting to the viewer. The lighting reflects how the subject is perhaps tired but relieved that it is the end of a hard-working day.

JF 9 is boring - nothing interesting to look at. JF 8 is just as bland as JF 9. JF 7 has more purpose but is harder to understand if they don't understand trucks and working on them. JF 6 is the best so far, because it's clearer to see and understand. JF 5 shows more of the personality of the subject of the photo. JF 4 again shows personality through a smile while she is surrounded by machinery and hands covered in oil. JF 3 is dull at first glance as it seems as though there is a lot of empty space but then you take into account the shadows and large scale 16-Wheeler trucks compared to the subject. JF 2 is taken perhaps half way through a conversation, making the situation interesting. JF 1 is very dark in comparison to the previous, JF 2. This may be because of shadows, darker toned machinery and, perhaps, darker coloured clothing.
